UPDATE :: "Something Rotten!" (article below) has received TEN Tony Award nominations, including Best New Musical!
My long time friend and SAK Theatre alum, Karey Kirkpatrick (& brother Wayne) had their Opening Night in NYC (Wed. 22 April) for their new Broadway musical farce Something Rotten! Max Miller saw it in previews and LOVED it. That's enough for me.

Set up: The year is 1595 and two brothers are play writing team that can't catch a break because some young, out-of-town, upstart name Shakespeare is a bit of a theatrical rock star. Visiting a sooth sayer, one of the brothers is told of a vision that in the future plays will stop and cast members will break into song to continue the story. WHAT A DUMB IDEA.
With that, they invent the musical! (See video teaser, below poster.) This one could run a long time, but don't wait. Get your tickets ASAP. The original cast has a gaggle of Broadways finest and funniest thespians.

Funnily enough the executive producer is Kevin McCollum (far left in photo) who was also a friend at Disney World when he was in the cast of the five person "Broadway At the Top" review. Always the promoter, Kevin moved to New York to get into producing. He was invited to see a new little "rock musical" in the Village that needed a producer. He jump at the chance and won his first Best Musical Tony Award producing RENT. Two more Tony's for best musical for In the Heights and Avenue Q (the one with puppets.) Make room for another Tony on your mantel, Kevin!
